Chapter 14

Creating an audio CD

The work flow of creating an audio CD

This chapter takes you through the process of creating an audio CD from a song.
First, you will adjust the volume balance and panning of each instrument part and audio track, and record the
result as stereo data. This process is called “mixdown.”
The data created by the mixdown is saved as a WAV file in the MIXDOWNTR folder of the hard disk.
Next, you will adjust the WAV file created by the mixdown so that it will have the ideal volume and loudness
for an audio CD. This process is called “mastering.”
On the MV-8800, you can use the “mastering tool kit” to smooth out inconsistencies in the volume anywhere
in the song and adjust the balance of the low-frequency range. This makes it easy to create a
powerful-sounding audio CD.
The data created by mastering is saved as a WAV file in the MASTERTR folder of the hard disk.
Finally, you will create an audio CD from the WAV files created by the mixdown/mastering process.

If desired, you can create an audio CD without mastering. Perform this step as you wish.
