About modes
The MV-8800 operates in one of four modes: Song mode, Pattern mode, Mixdown mode, or Mastering mode.
Song mode
In this mode you can record, play, and edit songs. You will be able to use up to 128 MIDI tracks, 8 audio tracks,
the pattern track, the mute control track, and the tempo track.
The MV-8800 will always start up in this mode.
Pattern mode
In this mode you can record, play, and edit patterns. You will be able to use up to 64 MIDI tracks, one audio
track, and the mute control track.
Mixdown mode
In this mode you can record the playback of your song as a stereo WAV file on the internal hard disk. This
process is called “mixdown.” The files recorded in this mode are saved in the MIXDOWNTR folder of the
internal hard disk.
You can’t record into a song while this mode is selected, but you can play back and edit the song.
In order to master a completed song, you must first mix it down.
Mastering mode
In this mode you can use the MTK (mastering tool kit) to adjust the tonal character and loudness of a WAV file
you’ve created in Mixdown mode, and re-record it as a different WAV file on the hard disk. This process is
called “mastering.” The files recorded in this mode are saved in the MASTERTR folder of the internal hard disk.
When you’re in this mode, you can only play back or record the WAV file that’s being mastered.
Music CDs are normally created from WAV files that have been mastered.
