Chapter 17

Using the velocity pads to display images (Pix Jam)
You can import up to sixteen still images (photos) into each project, and display these images along with your music. You
can also make the images switch in synchronization with the sequencer playback. The images will be output from the VGA
OUT connector.

Importing images

Here’s how to import the images into the MV-8800 so that you can display them by striking the pads.
1.
Press [SYSTEM].
The SYSTEM MENU screen (Screen Guide; p. 172) will appear.
2.
With the cursor located in the lower row of icons, press [F4](Pix Jam). Alternatively, select
the PIX JAM icon and press [ENTER].
The PIX JAM screen (Screen Guide; p. 185) will appear.

PAD
This shows how the images are assigned to the pads. A thumbnail of the assigned image is shown for each
pad.
3.
Either strike the pad to which you want to import an image, or use the cursor to select it.
Images can be output from the VGA OUT connector only when you’re using the build-in LCD as the operating
screen.
In order to use this capability, you’ll need a VGA display (commercially available).
You can use the following image formats.
• Bitmap (.BMP) format (uncompressed format only)
• JPEG (.JPG) format
The MV-8800 is capable of displaying only 256 colors. The colors of the imported image are converted into the
closest of these colors for display.
Only images that are 640 x 480 pixels in size can be displayed. Other sizes of images will not be displayed correctly.
