Sequencer structure
The sequencer records and plays back the performance data from the velocity pads, etc. The performance
data recorded in the sequencer is collectively referred to as a “sequence” (or “sequence data”).
The MV-8800 has two types of sequencers: song and pattern.
Songs
On the MV-8800, performance data for an entire composition is called a “song.”
A song consists of the following tracks.
• MIDI tracks (up to 128 tracks)
• Audio tracks (up to 8 tracks)
• Pattern track
• Mute control track
• Tempo track
In addition, a song also contains instrument, mixer, and effect settings.
Patterns
A pattern is another place (separate from a song) in which performance data can be recorded.
A pattern consists of the following tracks.
• MIDI tracks (up to 64 tracks)
• Audio track
• Mute control track
Unlike a song, a pattern does not include instrument, mixer, or effect settings. Since a pattern can be called
from the pattern track of a song, it’s convenient to use patterns to record phrases that are repeated several
times in your song.
Since patterns can also be called from the velocity pads, they can also be used in your live performances.
Yet another way to use patterns is as scratch pads for storing musical ideas that come to mind.
