Because the fax is constantly checking for errors during transmission, ECM receiving and sending require more time. The fax is set to conduct all transactions using ECM (error correction mode). Is your fax connected to a rotary dial telephone line?

Even if your fax is connected to a rotary dial line, you can still get faxes from information services that require tone dialling. Press TONE to receive faxes from information services that require touch-tone telephone lines for transmission. (Q12-3)
