Print Process Errors

Resolving a Headlift Error

Symptom: The Printhead continuously cycles or does not cycle at all.

Step

Procedure

 

 

1

Cycle the Headlift Motor.

 

a.

Press both buttons on the front control panel.

 

b.

Verify that the Headlift Motor turns.

 

 

If the Motor does not turn, continue to Step 2.

Test the Headlift Motor.

 

a.

Unplug the Printer.

 

b.

Remove the back cover.

 

c.

Disconnect the Headlift Motor from the Main Board.

 

d.

Connect a 9-volt battery to the Head Motor.

 

 

If the Motor does not turn, replace it. See the Replacing the Headlift

 

 

Motor Assembly (830143) in Section 5, page 170.

 

 

If the Motor does turn, continue to Step 3.

Test the Headlift Sensor.

 

a.

Remove the back cover.

 

b.

Attach the positive lead from a Digital Voltmeter to Pin 1 of J6. Attach the

 

 

negative lead to the Pin 3 of J6.

 

 

If open, the Sensor should read 0.17 to 0.9 VDC.

 

 

If closed, the Sensor should read 4.9 to 5.5 VDC.

 

c.

Replace the Sensor if the voltages do not read correctly. See the Replacing

 

 

the Printhead Harness Assembly (830162-00) procedure in Section 5, page
