Installation Checklist

Installation Checklist

Important

Be sure to maintain at least 127 mm (5 in.) of space at the rear of the server to allow the server's cooling system to work properly. Blocking the air vents can cause overheating, which might result in a malfunction or permanent damage.

Your server hardware is set up, and you are ready to learn about your server. The order in which you do these tasks is up to you. Use the following checklist as a guide.

ØLearn about your server and the system utility programs

Your server comes with utility programs to help you configure your server and troubleshoot problems. See Chapter 3, “Configuring Your Server” on page 39 for information about configuring your server and using these utility programs. See Chapter 5, “Solving Problems” on page 213 for details about troubleshooting. If your server came with a RAID adapter preinstalled, read and become familiar with your RAID adapter documentation.

ØRecord your identification numbers

Your server has important identification information that you will need if you have it serviced. Appendix A, “Server Records” on page 279 shows where to find these numbers, and provides space to record and retain information.

ØInstall options

If you have options to install, you might want to complete these installations now. See Chapter 4, “Installing Options” on page 73 for step-by-step installation instructions.
