DISTINCTIVE RING

(Varies depending on country and region)

If multiple telephone numbers have been assigned to your telephone line, the number called can be identified by its ringing pattern. By using one number for voice calls and another number for faxes, you can tell which type of call you are receiving by the ringing pattern. You can set your machine to automatically receive faxes when your fax number is called by setting the pattern that corresponds to your fax number. Normally "OFF" is selected.

1 Follow steps 1 through 6 of "INITIAL PROCEDURE" (page 98).

PBX SETTING

(Varies depending on country and region)

This program is used to have faxes routed to the outside line by default when the unit is connected to a private branch exchange. By default, this program is disabled. To activate the program, touch the PBX CONNECTION checkbox to make a checkmark appear, and then select the method for connecting to an outside line by touching the "FLASH" key or the "ID" key.

If you connect to the outside line by making a register call, select "FLASH". If you connect to the outside line by dialing a number, select "ID". If you select "ID", enter the number that is dialed to connect to the outside line (maximum of 3 digits). The number is entered by touching the entry boxes for each of the digits and using the [ DISTINCTIVE RING , (Varies depending on country and region) ] keys to enter the appropriate digit in each box. Be sure to enter the number from the box on the left. Any digit from 0 to 9 can be entered in the left box, and digits 0 to 9 and "-" can be entered in the central and right boxes. If your external line number is two digits, enter "-" in the right box, and if your external line number is one digit, enter "-" in the central and right boxes.

When PBX CONNECTION is enabled, the "R" key appears in the base screen of fax mode. This key can be touched to switch to fax transmission inside your PBX. If the number you are storing in either of these screens is inside your PBX, touch the "R" key before entering the number to have the fax transmission automatically routed to the PBX when the number is dialed.

Note

The "R" key is not available in UK, Belgium

and the Netherlands.

REMOTE RECEPTION

(Only when an extension phone is connected)

When a call is received on an extension phone connected to the machine, fax reception can be activated by entering a 1-digit number and pressing PBX SETTING twice on the phone's keypad. This 1-digit number is called the remote reception number, and you can set it to any number from "0" to "9". Normally the remote reception number is set to "5".

1 Follow steps 1 through 6 of "INITIAL PROCEDURE" (page 98).

2 Select "INITIAL SETTING" with the [ REMOTE RECEPTION] or [ Manual background] key and then press the [OK] key.

3 Select "REMOTE RECEPTION" with the [ Manual background] or [ Manual background] key and then press the [OK] key.

4 Enter a new remote number with the numeric keys (0 to 9) and then press the [OK] key.

Note

If a remote number has been previously

stored, the newly entered remote number

overwrites the old number.
