Short Message Service (SMS) for GSM

Sending Short Messages to GSM Users

The network operators normally save SMS messages for up 48 hours if the mobile phone user cannot be reached.

>Notes:There is no guarantee that an SMS message will reach the recipient. The service centers may send a positive confirmation signal, even if the recipient number does not exist.

Reply messages from mobile phone users are not supported in this version of SMS for GSM.

5.2Sending Short Messages to GSM Users

This section describes how to use your mail software to send SMS messages to mobile phone users in the supported mobile network.

The procedures are described using the Netscape Messenger mail client integrated in Netscape Communicator 4.x as an example. The procedure is identical if you want to use a dif- ferent e-mail client.

The Internet e-mail software used must support the STMP standard e-mail protocol (for outgo- ing e-mails) if you want to use it to send SMS messages to mobile users in the supported mo- bile networks.
