LINE COMMANDS

This command controls login authentication via the switch itself. To configure user names and passwords for remote authentication servers, you must use the RADIUS or TACACS software installed on those servers.

password

This command specifies the password for a line. Use the no form to remove the password.

Syntax

password {0 7} password no password

{0 7} - 0 means plain password, 7 means encrypted password

password - Character string that specifies the line password. (Maximum length: 8 characters plain text, 32 encrypted, case sensitive)

Default Setting

No password is specified.

Command Usage

When a connection is started on a line with password protection, the system prompts for the password. If you enter the correct password, the system shows a prompt. You can use the password-threshcommand to set the number of times a user can enter an incorrect password before the system terminates the line connection and returns the terminal to the idle state.
