What is finalization?

÷Finalization is the final process in recording a CD-R or CD-RW disc that is playable on standard CD players. (However, CD-RW discs, whether finalized or not, can only be played back on a CD-RW disc player.)

÷Once a disc is finalized, skip ID setting/clearing is possible on the disc; be very careful.

÷Never cut the power supply during finalization, for this may lead to disc damage.

Finalization procedure

1 Load a CD-R or CD-RW disc which has been recorded on. For a disc loading, refer to p. 38.

÷Ensure that there is no scratch, dust or stain on the disc.

If the disc is dusty or stained, clean it by referring to “Disc main- tenance” on page 18.

2 Press the FINALIZE button. The unit enters record-pause mode.

÷The displayed time varies depending on discs.

÷If finalization is not required, press the stop (7) button; finaliza- tion will be aborted.

÷The procedure is canceled automatically when the unit has re- mained in record-pause mode for about 10 minutes or more.

Wait until the time information is displayed.

3 Press the pause (8) button to start the procedure. Finalization starts now.

÷The remaining time until the completion of finalization is dis- played during finalization.

÷It usually takes about 4 minutes until the finalization completes.

÷When the CD-R finalization is completed normally, the CD-R in- dicator changes to the CD indicator, and the unit enters stop mode automatically.

÷When the CD-RW finalization is completed normally, the FINAL- IZE indicator lights and the unit enters stop mode automatically.
