About the HP 53131A/132A Calibration Menu

If you are familiar with the information provided in this section, proceed to the section titled “The HP 53131A/132A Calibration Procedures” on page 2-15to calibrate your Counter. This section, “About the

HP 53131A/132A Calibration Menu,” can be used as a reference.

With the exception of the standard timebase oscillator, no adjustments are required for the HP 53131A/132A Counter.

Overview of the HP 53131A/132A Calibration Menu

The Calibration menu is accessed by holding the Scale & Offset key and cycling the POWER key. All of the calibration factors and security settings are stored in non-volatilememory, and do not change when power has been off or after a remote interface reset.

A calibration security code feature allows you to enter a security code (electronic key) to prevent accidental or unauthorized calibrations of the Counter. The security code is set to 53131 or 53132 (corresponding to the model) when the Counter is shipped from the factory. If you forget your security code, you can reset the security code to the model-number default by resetting all of the non-volatile memory to a default state (Contact HP for this confidential procedure).

This menu does not exist in early versions of the Counter. In the early versions (firmware revisions 3317, 3335, and 3402) of the HP 53131A/132A, the CAL: menu item resides in the Utility menu, and there is no calibration security capability. See Chapter 6, “Backdating,” in this guide for the correct calibration procedures.
