6 Clearing jams

By carefully selecting print media and loading it properly, you are able to avoid most jams. If jams do occur, complete the steps in the following sections. If jams occur frequently, see Avoiding jams.

Avoiding jams

Use appropriate print media (paper, transparencies, labels, and card stock) to help ensure trouble- free printing. See Print media guidelines for more information.

Note: We recommend that you try a limited sample of any print media you are considering using with the printer before purchasing large quantities.

By selecting appropriate print media and loading it properly, you are able to avoid most jams. See the following for instructions on loading print media:

Loading trays (including the standard tray, optional 250-sheet tray, and optional 500-sheet tray)

Loading the optional 2000-sheet drawer

Using and loading the multipurpose feeder

Using the loading the envelope feeder

Avoiding jams hints

The following hints can help you avoid jams:

Use only recommended print media. See Print media guidelines for more information. Refer to the Card Stock & Label Guide available on Lexmark’s Web site at www.lexmark.com/publications for more information about which print media will provide optimum results for your printing environment.

If you need detailed information before purchasing large quantities of customized print media, refer to the Card Stock & Label Guide.

Do not overload the print media sources. Make sure the stack height does not exceed the maximum height indicated by the load line labels in the sources.

Do not load wrinkled, creased, damp, or curled print media.
