The LAYOUTparameter
The layout orformat or setup of a page refersto how text is positionedon the page. Layout includes page orientation,margins and the spacing of charactersacrossand lines down the page. You can controlthese with the LAYOUTparameter.
You probably won’t use the LAYOUT parameter on the front panel’s programmenu very much though.Most of the time you’lleitherleave the Star LaserPrinter8 with its defaultsettings,or look after page formatting with commandsyou send from your computer.
Page orientation
A page’sorientation tellsyouin whichdirectionthe printgoeson the page. Whenyouuseportraitorientationthelinesareprintedastheyarein anormal businessletter,acrossthe widthof thepage.A portraitpaintingof a person is usually

Whenyou use lanakcape orientationthe wordsare printed“on theirsides,” verticallyup thelengthof thepage.Text writtenwithlandscapeorientation
Envelopesmust be printed with landscapeorientation.You also will use landscaperegularlyto print chartsor banners,and spreadsheetsor reports with so many columnsthey wouldn’totherwisefit on the page.
All internalfonts,andalmostallcartridgeanddownloadedfonts,are stored in the Star LascrPnnter8 with portraitorientation.
