ip rip triggered-on-demand

ThiscommandenablestriggeredondemandRIPonthespecifiedinterface.Itisavailableona
pointtopointSerial(WAN)interfaceonly.
OndemandRIPpermitstheupdateofanXSR’sRIProutingtableonlywhenthedatabasechanges
orwhenanexthop’sreachabilityisdetectedontheWANsideoftheconnection.This
functionalityreducestheondemandWANcircuit’sroutingtrafficandallowsthelinktobe
broughtdownwhenapplicationtrafficceases.RegularRIPupdateswouldpreventtheconnection
frombeingtorndownwhenapplicationuseends.
OndemandRIPisavailableunderconditionswheretherouteislearnedthroughadialerordialer
backupconnectionandadialondemandlink.
Thefollowingconditionsgovernthecommand’suse:
•RIPmustbeenabled.
•IPsplithorizonmustbeenabled(default).Whetherpoisonisenabledornot,triggeredon
demandwillstillsenditsupdateswithpoison.
Anothercommand, ip rip disable-triggered-updates,withthedefaultenforced(triggered
updatesenabled),invokestriggeredupdatesinatimelyfashionasdescribedbyRFCs1058and
2453(RIPandRIPv2protocol)anddoesnotteardowntheconnection.Thetwofeatureswork
independentofeachother.
