dealer or Microsoft. In order to use Windows 95/98 RAS over ISDN, the following components must be installed:

ISDN-Controller

CAPI device drivers (installed during the ISDN-Controller Setup)

ISDN CAPI Port Device Driver

Dial-Up Networking (and Dial-up Server module, if desired)

·Network protocol with appropriate client software (such as NetBEUI), bound to the Dial-up Adapter.

Make sure that all of these components are installed.

Note that Windows 95/98 can use only one Dial-up Networking connection at a time.

In the following example configuration, the Microsoft NetBEUI protocol is used to ”map” a drive on the remote computer to the local computer, so that the remote drive can be addressed as a local drive over ISDN.

Example RAS configuration (Windows 95/98 computer to Windows 95/98 computer using ISDN controllers): Preparations (client and server)

1.Install Dial-Up Networking server module (server computer only)

2.In order to provide RAS services from a Windows 95 computer, the file RNASERV.DLL must be contained in the Windows\System folder. This file can be installed from the Windows 95 Plus Pack. It is already included in certain Windows 95 release versions, and can be extracted from the compressed installation files on the original Windows 95 disk using the command EXTRACT /E WIN95_06.CAB RNASERV.DLL.

3.Windows 98 users must install the Dial-Up Networking server module via:Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Software -> Windows Setup ->

Communications -> Details... -> Dial-Up Networking

4.Install the NetBEUI protocol: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network - > Add... -> Protocol -> Add... -> Microsoft -> NetBEUI -> OK

5.Verify protocol binding: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network -> Dial-Up Adapter -> Properties -> Bindings. NetBEUI must be selected.

6.Install client: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network -> Add... -> Client -> Add... -> Microsoft -> Client for Microsoft networks -> OK.

7.Install File and Print Sharing (server only): Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network -> Add... -> Service -> Add... Microsoft -> File and print sharing for Microsoft networks -> OK.

Configuring the Windows 95/98 client:

1.Create a new Dial-Up Networking connection: My Computer ->Dial-Up Networking -> Make New Connection. Enter a name for the connection. Select modem ISDN RAS (PPP over ISDN) and click Continue. Enter the phone number (when dialing from a PBX extension, remember to include the outside line prefix). Click Continue and then Finish.
