13. ISDN CAPI Port Device Driver 199
Note: To use this modem a CAPI device driver software supporting T.30 (Fax
Group 3) is required.
The hardware requirements for Fax G3 are higher than for other CAPI
applications, as the analog/digital conversion is performed by the computer's
CPU. A Pentium computer with 133 MHz and at least 32 MB RAM will provide
optimal performance.
The maximum fax speed depends on the CAPI device driver software, the fax
machine/software on the other side, the line quality and the hardware standard
of your computer. The ISDN CAPI 2.0 device driver software and the ISDN CAPI
Port device driver support a speed of up to 14,400 Bit/s for receiving and sending
faxes.
MS Exchange/Outlook
If you install MS Exchange/Outlook, specify the modem ISDN FAX (G3). No
additional settings are required (modem’s default setting: AT S31=3). For more
information about the configuration of MS Exchange/Outlook, see the
documentation of your operating system, or contact your dealer or Microsoft.
WinFax PRO
If you want to use the software WinFax PRO 8.x/9.x by Symantec, do not select
the virtual modem ISDN FAX G3 in the configuration window. Select instead the
direct use of the CAPI 2.0 interface.
Setting: Generic ISDN or Generic ISDN (CAPI 2.0).
Alternatively, select the ISDN-Controller installed if implemented in your WinFax
version.
Data communications software
Thanks to support for the UNIMODEM architecture of Windows NT/2000, the
CAPI Port Device Driver also can be used with 32-bit data communications
applications such as "HyperTerminal". The virtual modems
ISDN Mailbox (X.75)
ISDN Analog Modem (V.32bis)
ISDN - ISDN (X.75)
•Custom Config
can be used for this purpose. The registers available for custom configuration are
described in Appendix A. Please note the default values for the various registers.
Should problems in changing to command mode (+++) arise, adjust the time
interval for the escape sequence (e.g., ATS12=1000).
The "ISDN - ISDN (X.75)" modem can be used to establish point-to-point
connections over secured data link (X.75).
