The Intel~ 8049/8039/8039-6 Is a totally self-sufficient 8-bit parallel computer fabricated on a single silicon chip using Intel'sN-channel silicon gate MOS process.

The 8049 contains a 2K x 8 program memory, a 128 x 8 RAM data memory, 27 I/O lines, and an 8·blttimer/counter in addition to on board oscillator and clock circuits. For systems that require extra C;llpabillty, the 8049 can be expanded using standard memories and MCS-80™/MCS·85TM peripherals. The 8039 is the equivalent toan 8049 without program

memory. The 8039·6is a lower speed (6 MHz) version of the 8039..

To reduce development problems to a minimum and provide maximum flexibility, two Interchangeable pin-compatible versions of this single component microcomputer exist: the B049 with factory-programmed mask ROM program memory for low-cost high volume production, and the 8039 without program memory for use with external program memories in prototype and preproduction systems.

This microprocessor is designed to be an efficient contl'olleras well as an arithmetic processor. The 8049 has exten- sive bit handling capability as well as facilities for both binary and BCD arithmetic. Efficient use of program memory results from an instruction set consisting mostly of single byte instructions and·no instructions over two bytes In length.
