(supported models only)

Voice-over-IP (VoIP) refers to the ability to make voice telephone calls over the Internet. This differs from tra- ditional phone calls that use the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). VoIP calls use an Internet pro- tocol, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), to transmit sound over a network or the Internet in the form of data packets. Certain Motorola Netopia® Gateway models have two separate voice ports for connecting tele- phone handsets. These models support VoIP. If your Gateway is a VoIP model, you can configure the VoIP features.

When you click the VoIP link, the SIP Line Entry page appears.

To enable a VoIP line, select one of the lines from the SIP Line Entry menu that corresponds to the port on the Gateway to which your phone is connected.

Click the Edit button. In the resulting screen, check the Enable SIP checkbox.

The screen expands to display the features that you can enable for that line.
