Vegetables

English

Use the automatic button for VEGETABLES to cook most

fresh vegetables without

calculating cooking times (see exceptions in the table on p.33). Follow the guidelines from the operating instructions. Beeps will sound half-way through the cooking time to remind you to stir or turn the vegetables. When doing so, take care not to burn yourself when removing the lid or cling-film.

This programme is not suitable for cooking steam-in bag vegetables.

Containers

Place the vegetables in a container which is microwave safe of a suitable size for the amount of vegetables.

It is better to use wide dishes (such as a high-sided wide Pyrex® dish) than tall narrow dishes. Avoid using bowls, even large ones.

It is recommended, when possible, to cut the vegetables into equal pieces to allow then to cook evenly.

Vegetables with fragile tips such as asparagus or

broccoli should be

placed in such a way that the tips are in the centre of the dish and the stalks (which require more cooking) at the edges.

Whole vegetables with skin should be pricked in order to allow the steam to escape and prevent them from exploding (potatoes, aubergines, tomatoes, etc.)

Standing time

It is necessary to leave vegetables to stand for at least 5 min after cooking, except for vegetables which contain a lot of water (courgettes, endives, spinach or tomatoes) which should be left for approx. 2 min standing time. It is normal for vegetables to seem undercooked when removed from the oven, they will finish cooking during the standing time.

Accessory

When cooking vegetables using microwaves only, and when using the VEGETABLES automatic programme, place the dish directly on the glass tray.

When cooking gratins using Combination cooking, place a heat-resistant dish which is microwave safe on metal tray on the glass tray. When browning the cheese top of already cooked gratins, place the heat-resistant and microwave safe container on the wire rack.

Lid

When using microwaves only or the automatic button, the vegetables must be covered with a suitable lid or

cling-film. The steam held in by the lid will help to cook the vegetables quickly and evenly.
