Using Logs

A log file is a file that stores messages, which are sometimes called events or event log entries, generated by an application, service, or operating system. These messages are used to track the operations performed by the system. Log files are usually plain text (ASCII) files and usually have .log extensions.

You can use the PowerVault NAS Manager to access these log files to monitor the operation of your system.

Managing Logs

You can use the Logs feature to download, view, clear, and configure several types of event logs that are provided by the system. The available logs are as follows:

Application log

FTP log

NFS log

Security log

System log

Web (HTTP) shares log

Web administration log

Downloading Log Files

The Download Log Files page on the NAS Manager allows you to download specific log files to your NAS appliance.

1On the PowerVault NAS Manager primary menu, click Maintenance.

2On the Maintenance page, click Logs.

3On the Logs page, select the type of log you want to download.

4In the Tasks list on the Log Type Log page, click Download.

5In the File Download dialog window, select Save this file to disk.

6Click OK to download the log file.
