10 Glossary

PostScript

PostScript is a page description language (PDL) developed by

Adobe Systems. It is an object-oriented language, meaning

that it treats images, including fonts, as collections of

geometrical objects rather than as bitmaps. PostScript is the

standard for desktop publishing because it is widely supported

by both hardware and software vendors.

See “driver”.

profile

A protocol controlling image resolution, paper size and other

waiting to be processed. A print queue will hold several print

RARP

An abbreviation of Reverse Address Resolution Protocol. This

is a method for providing IP Addresses to nodes on a network.

Receive Buffer

Buffer is the location to store data sent from the client

temporarily. By increasing the memory capacity of the receive

buffer, the client can be freed earlier.

recipient

A person or terminal you send a document to. In relation to

Internet Fax it refers to the e-mail address of a remote

terminal.

Remote Mailbox
