HP Storage Mirroring Interoperability

File Migration Agent 2.5 supports the following features of HP Storage Mirroring 5.1.1.867:

Mirroring—The initial copy or subsequent resynchronization of selected data

Replication—The on-going capture of byte-level file changes

Failure monitoring and failover—The ability to monitor and stand-in for a server, in the event of a failure

Restoration—A mirror of selected data from the target back to the source

There are some limitations and additional configuration requirements for FMA and HP Storage Mirroring interoperability. Refer to the HP Business Support Center below for technical manuals on HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring Software. Individual manuals describe how each of the major features of Storage Mirroring are supported by FMA.

Mirroring and Replication

Mirroring is the process of transmitting user-specified data from the source to the target so that an identical copy of data exists on the target. When Storage Mirroring initially performs mirroring, it copies all of the selected data, including file attributes and permissions. Replication is the real-time transmission of file changes. The Storage Mirroring replication process operates at the file system level and is able to track file changes independently from the file’s related application. Replication keeps the target up-to-date and synchronized with the source.

HP Storage Mirroring is able to mirror and replicate files and file stubs from managed volume(s) to target storage on the target server. HP File Migration Agent supports one way (active source/passive target) mirroring and replication provided by HP Storage Mirroring. FMA can be installed on both source and target with the below restrictions in mind.

Restrictions:

The same resources (files or file stubs) can not be managed concurrently by HP File Migration Agent on source and target server during mirroring and replication.
