Chapter 4 Features and Enhancements

Answering Machine Enhancements

Detecting Beeps on Answering Machines - Feature

The method used to detect answering machine beeps involved waiting for the beep, and then waiting a little longer to ensure it was the last beep. Due to the variety and frequency range of beeps on answering machines, the beep detec- tion was proving not very reliable. Therefore, a new method of simply wait- ing for a specified period of silence before playing the message is available and is the default method. The default silence period is set to four seconds, and can be changed by using the keyword ANSM_SILENCE into the Dial- ing Rules. This keyword assigns the silent period in 100ms increments. For example, to change the silent period to five seconds, insert “ANSM_SILENCE 50” into the Dialing Rules, then type “load misc” at the Admin Terminal.

To revert to the old method of detecting answering machine beeps, insert “ANSM_USETONE 1” in the Dialing Rules and type “load misc” at the Admin Terminal.
