146CHAPTER 4: PLANNING THE 3COM MOBILITY SYSTEM

To create a new profile, click Create. The Create Radio Profile wizard appears. (See “Configuring a Radio Profile” on page 245.)

3In the Service Profile List group box, click Choose Available to select a service profile. Service profiles define SSIDs and their encryption settings, and are associated with radio profiles. You can select more than one service profile.

To create a new profile, click Create. The Create Service Profile wizard appears. (See “Configuring a Service Profile” on page 238.)

4In the Shared Area list, select a coverage area that will share MAP access points with the one you are configuring.

If you selected two radio technologies when defining a coverage area, a shared area is automatically created.

5In the Wiring Closet list, select the wiring closet that contains the WX switch or switches to be connected to the shared MAP access points.

If the MAPs will be directly connected to WX switches, a wiring closet is required. If all the MAPs in the coverage area will be indirectly connected to WX switches through the network, a wiring closet is not required.

6In the Redundant Wiring Closet list, select the wiring closet that will provide redundant connection to the MAP access points. This is required for directly connected MAPs, if you require the MAPs to have redundant connections. Otherwise, this is not required.

Only AP models that have two Ethernet ports can support redundant direct connections. However, models with one Ethernet port can support redundant distributed connections.

7In the MAP List group box, click Choose Available to pick an available MAP, if one is configured.

This step assumes that the network plan already has a MAP and that the MAP is physically located within the area you are configuring. If you are planning a new installation, skip this step.

8If you selected only 802.11a or 802.11g technology, go to step 9.

If you selected 802.11a and 802.11g technologies, do the following:

a Repeat step 1 through step 9 in “Specifying Coverage Area Properties” on page 143.

b Repeat step 2 through step 21 in “Specifying Association Information” on page 145.

9Click Next. The Area Constraints page appears.
