can specify the following:

 

„ Whether SSIDs that use the service profile are beaconed

 

„

Whether the SSIDs are encrypted or clear (unencrypted)

 

„

For encrypted SSIDs, the encryption settings to use

The SSID type must be crypto (encrypted) for encryption to be used. If the SSID type is clear, wireless traffic is not encrypted, regardless of the encryption settings.

1Access the WX Switch wizard for the WX switch. (See “Accessing the WX Switch Wizard” on page 187.)

2Select Wireless at the top of the wizard, if not already selected.

3Select Service Profile from the organizer list on the left side of the page.

4Click New Service Profile. The Create Service Profile wizard appears.

5In the Name box, type a name of up to 16 alphanumeric characters, with no spaces, for the service profile.

6In the SSID box, edit the SSID name. The name can be 1 to 32 alphanumeric characters long, with no spaces or tabs.

7In the SSID Type pull-down list, select whether the SSID is encrypted or unencrypted. New SSIDs are encrypted by default.

8To disable beaconing (advertisement) of the SSID by 3Com radios, click on the Yes checkbox next to Beacon to disable beaconing. When beaconing is disabled, clients can find the SSID only by sending a probe request. Beaconing is enabled by default.

When you disable beaconing for an SSID, the radio still sends beacon frames, but the SSID name in the frames is blank.
