246CHAPTER 6: CONFIGURING WIRELESS PARAMETERS

To create a radio To create a radio profile, use the following procedure. profile

1Access the WX Switch wizard for the WX switch. (See “Accessing the WX Switch Wizard” on page 187.)

2Select Wireless at the top of the wizard, if not already selected.

3Select Radio Profile from the organizer list on the left side of the page.

4Select New Radio Profile. The Create Radio Profile wizard appears.

5In the Name box, type the name of the radio profile (1 to 16 characters, with no spaces or tabs).

6To prevent the association of 802.11b clients to 802.11g radios using this profile, select Exclude 802.11b clients.

Selecting this option prevents associations by 802.11b clients but does not disable 802.11b protection mode. To guard against interference, an 802.11b/g radio in protection mode sends messages while 802.11g traffic at higher data rates is being sent, to inform 802.11b devices about the 802.11g traffic and reserve bandwidth for the traffic. Protection mode affects overall traffic throughput due to the additional messages sent by 802.11b/g radios.

7To enable countermeasures against rogues detected by radios managed by this profile, select one of the following from the Countermeasures Type pull-down list:

„None—Radios do not use countermeasures. This is the default.

„All—Radios use countermeasures against devices classified by MSS as rogues and against devices classified by MSS as interfering devices.

A rogue is a device that is in the 3Com network but does not belong there. An interfering device is not part of the 3Com network but also is not a rogue. MSS classifies a device as an interfering device if no client connected to the device has been detected communicating with any network entity listed in the forwarding database (FDB) of any WX switch in the Mobility Domain. Although the interfering device is not connected to your network, the device might be causing RF interference with MAP radios.

„Rogue—Radios use countermeasures against devices classified by MSS as rogues, but do not use countermeasures against devices classified by MSS as interfering devices.
