152CHAPTER 4: PLANNING THE 3COM MOBILITY SYSTEM

8In the SSID box, type the service set identifier (SSID) for the radio.

9If the access point has only one radio, click Finish. Otherwise, go to step 10.

10Click Next. The Radio A page appears.

11Repeat step 2 through step 8 for the 802.11a radio.

12Click Finish to save the changes.

Moving the AP Icon to its Floor Location

When you finish creating a third-party AP, 3WXM places an icon for the AP on the Objects To Place tab for the floor, from which you can move it to its location.

1In the Building wizard, navigate to the floor where the AP is located.

2Navigate to the Plan RF Coverage page.

3Click Objects To Place to display the tab.

4Click on the AP icon, then click on the location where the AP is located. The AP moves from the Objects To Place tab to its location on the floor.

Computing MAP After you provide information about floor plans, RF obstacles, and

Placementwireless coverage requirements, 3WXM can design your 3Com wireless network for this floor using the following process:

„Compute and place MAP access points (See “Computing and Placing MAP Access Points for a Coverage Area” on page 153.)

„Compute optimal power (See “Computing Optimal Power” on page 165.)

„Assign channels to MAP access points (See “Assigning MAP Channels” on page 162.)

3WXM determines the number of MAP access points that need to be installed in the area and the number of WX switches needed in the wiring closet (if the floor has them), and then places them on the floor plan. You can move the MAP access points on the floor plan to more convenient locations to simplify installation. 3WXM also determines the WX to which a MAP should connect.
