Configuring Spanning Tree Port Information

You can change the STP cost and priority of an individual port. You can also enable port fast convergence.

Port fast convergence bypasses both the listening and learning stages and immediately places a port in the forwarding state. Use port fast convergence on network ports that are directly connected to servers, hosts, or other MAC stations.

Do not use port fast convergence on ports connected to other bridges.

To configure STP port information:

1In the Create VLAN wizard, click Spanning Tree Port Setup. The Spanning Tree Port Setup page appears.

2Select the port whose STP information you want to modify.

3Click Modify. The Modify Port dialog box appears.

4To enable spanning tree packet processing (Tx/Rx) on that port, make sure Enabled is selected. This is the default.

To disable this feature, clear Enabled. If you disable spanning tree packet processing on the port, the following might happen:

„If STP is enabled on the VLAN, spanning tree packets are dropped at the port.

„If STP is disabled on the VLAN, spanning tree packets are forwarded transparently through the VLAN to and from that port.

5In the Port Priority box, specify a priority value (0 to 255). The default is 128.

6In the Path Cost box, specify a value (0 to 65,535) for the cost. The default depends on the port speed and link type:

„1000 Mbps, full duplex aggregate link (port group)—3

„1000 Mbps, full duplex—4

„100 Mbps, full duplex aggregate link (port group)—15
