dedicated line
A communications path that does not go through a switch. A dedicated
default
A value that is automatically supplied by the system if no other value is specified.
delivered message
A voice mail message that has been successfully transmitted to a recipient's incoming mailbox.
demand testing
Testing performed on request (usually by service personnel).
diagnostic testing
A program run for testing and determining faults in the system.
dial-ahead/dial-through
The act of interrupting or preceding INTUITY AUDIX system announcements by typing (buffering)
digital
Discrete data or signals such as 0 and 1.
digital communications protocol (DCP)
A 64 Kbps digital data transmission code with a 160 Kbps bipolar bit stream divided into two information (I) channels and one signaling (S) channel.
digital networking
A method of transferring voice mail messages between voice messaging systems in a digital for- mat. See also INTUITY AUDIX Digital Networking.
DIP switch

direct memory access (DMA)
A quick method of moving data from a storage device directly to RAM, which speeds processing.
directory
An INTUITY AUDIX feature allowing you to hear a subscriber's name and extension after typing **N at the activity menu. Also, a group of related files accessed by a common name in software.
display terminal
A data terminal with a screen and keyboard used for displaying INTUITY screens and performing maintenance or administration activities.
distributed communications system (DCS)
A network of two or more switches that uses logical and physical data links to provide full or par- tial feature transparency. Voice links are made using tie trunks.
