Generalform
Under Ports - Physical Ports in Expe rt Mode, if you select one or more ports from the ports list
and click the Mod ify button, the G eneral form appears.
The General form allows you to define general po rtsett ings, connect to an IPDU port and
select the co nnection typ e to a serial port (SSH, Telnet or bot h).
The number of the selected p ort or ports displays next to the Do ne button at the bo ttom of the
form in the format: Selected ports #:N, where N stan ds forth e port number.
Connection profiles
The following sectio nsd escribe the available connectio n protocols for each connection to the
serialports.
Console AccessServer (CAS) profile connection protocols
When a serial port is conn ected to the console port o n a device, a CAS profile must be defined
for the serial port.
Clicking Ports - Phy sical Ports - General and selecting the approp riate connection protoco l on
the is part of defining th e CAS profile.
The CAS connect ion protocols ap ply in the following cases:
W hen a user accesses the serial port through the we b manager,t he session automatically
uses the specified protoco l to connect to the con sole of the connected devic e.
W hen a user logs in remotely to the serial po rt,acce ssis al lowed only for the selected
protocol. If anoth er protocol is used then access i s denied. For example, if y ou specify the
Console (SSH) protocol, the user can use SSH but can not use Telnet to access the serial
port.
The following ta ble shows the options from the list o fcon nection protocols whe n the console
server serial port is con nected to th e console port o f a server or a device.
