The following table shows the connectio n protocols for modems or IPDUs c onnected to t he
serialports.

SLIP Startsa SLIP session.Assumes the specified console server serial

CSLIP Startsa CSLIP session. Assumesthe specifiedconsole server serial
portis connected to an external mo dem.
PowerManagement Configur es the serial port fo r power management. Assumes an
IPDUis connected to the serial port.

To configurea serial port connection protocol fora console connection:
This procedure assumes that the selected serial port is physi cally connected to a console po rto n
adevice.
1. Go to Ports - Physical Ports i n Expert mode,sel ect a port orp ortst o modify and click the
appropriate Modi fy Ports button. The Gen eral form appears.
2. Click the Genera l tab. The General form appears with the number(s) of the selected port(s)
next to the Do ne button at the bot tom of the form.Al l active tabs are yellow.
3. To change the con nection protocol, select on e oft he options from the Connectio n Protocol
pull-down menu: Console (Telnet ),Con sole (SSH),Consol e (Telnet & SSH)or Consol e
(Raw). The default is Con sole (Telnet).
