The following procedure assumes that the selected serial port is p hysically connect ed to a
terminal. For more information on Bidirectio nal Telnet con nection protoco l, see Bidirectional
Telnet protocol on p age 106.
1. Go to Ports - Physical Ports i n Expert mode,sel ect a port orp ortst o modify, click the
appropriate Modi fy Ports button. The Gen eral form appears.
2. Click the Genera l tab. The General form appears with the number(s) of the selected port(s)
next to the Do ne button at the bot tom of the forman d the active tabs are yellow .
3. To change the con nection protocol, select Bid irectional Telnet from the Connecti on
Protocol pull-down menu .

to match the con nected devices: on pag e 111.
5. Go to the Access tab an d configure the following set tings:
a. In the Authorized U sers/Groups field restrict ord eny access to a serial port by
specifying one or more users or groups.
b. From the Type pull-down menu ,selec t an authentication t ype for the serial port. The
default is no au thentication (Type= None).
c. In the Bidirectio n Login Timeout field enter the t ime forth e serial port to return to an
idle state. When th e username is not entered in the terminal wi ndow after the login
banner is displayed, th e serial port returns to an idle state. The default ti meout value is
60 seconds.
d. In the Bidirection Shel l Command field enter the menu shell command, for example,
/bin/menusht o build a cu stom menu for the TS profile.
6. To customize a men u shell, go to the web manager, Appl ications - Terminal Profile Menu
form. Formore information on co nfiguring a menu shell see Applications on page 51.
