Choosefr om the following options to select what will be shown when connected
tothe serial port to see or w ork with the data buffering: Show all options,No,
Showdata buf fering fileonly,Show w ithout the erase options or Show and
erasedata buf fering file.
To configuredata buffering for serial ports:
Performth is procedure if you wish to configure da ta buffering. Obtain the facility number for
the console server from the system administrator of the syslo g server.Op tions range from
Local0 to Local7.
1. Go to Ports - Physical Ports i n Expert mode and select a port or ports to modify.
2. Select the Data Buff ering tab. The Data Buffering form displ ays.
3. Select Enable Data Bu ffering.
4. From the Destinatio n pull-down menu , choose Local or Remote to specify wh ether the data
buffer files are stored locall y or remotely on a file server.
5. If you chose Local from the Dest ination pull-down men u,p erformthe foll owing:
a. Choose Circula r or Linear from the Mode pul l-down menu.
b. Enter a size larger than 0 in the Fil e Size (Bytes)fiel d.
6. If you chose Remo te fromth e Destination pull-dow n menu, enter the NFS mount point for
the directory where data b ufferfile is to be stored in th e NFSFile Path field.
NOTE: Ifyou ar e configuringdat a buffer filesto be stor ed remotely, make sure that a systemadministrator has
alreadyconfigured an NFS server and shar ed the mount point.
7. Click the checkb ox next to Record to specify whet hert o include a timestamp with the
data.
8. From the Show Menu pull-down menu, choo se Show all options,No,Show data buff ering
file only or Sh ow without the erase opt ions.
9. If you checked Buffer to S yslog, enter the IP address of the syslog server in the Syslog
Server field.
10. Choo se an option from the Facility Number pull -down menu.
11. Enter the maximum size o fth e bufferin the Syslog Bu fferSize field.
