Syslog
You can use the Syslog form to configure how t he console server handles system-logged
messages. The Syslog form allows y ou to perform the follow ing:
Speci fyo ne ormore syslog servers to receive syslog messages related to p orts.
Speci fy rules for filtering messages.
The top field on th e formCAS Ports Facility i su sed to tell the console server where to sen d
syslogmessages.
You can specify a facilit y number fort he messages fromserial ports. Obt ain the facility
numbers from the syslog server’s administrato r.
You can send the sysl og messages:
To t he console port for logging th e messagesev en if no user is logged in
To all sessions where the roo t user is logged in
To one or more sysl og servers
You can ad d or remove syslog servers.
The bottom p art of the form has filtering rules for specifying which types of messages are
forwarded based on the follo wing criteria:
Severit y level: Emergency, Alert, Crit ical, Error,W arning, Notice, Info, Debug
Cat egory CAS log; Data Buffering log; Web log o rSystem log
To configuresyslogging for serial ports and specifymessage filtering:
1. Go to Network - Syslo g in Expert mode. The Syslog form appears.
2. Select a facility number for messages generated by serial ports by selecting th en umber
from the CAS Ports Facility pull-down menu.
3. Select a destination for the syslog messages by cli cking the checkbox n ext to one or all of
the optio ns: Console, Root User or Server.
4. Add a syslog server to the Syslo g Serverslist, by entering i ts IPaddress in th e New Syslog
Server field and clic king Add.
5. Configure the message filtering as p er your requirements.
6. Click apply changes.
