The console server au tomatically recogni zes and supports a Cyclades PM IPDU or Avocent
SPC device when the serial po rtt o which the power devi ce is connected has been configu red
for power management.
Additional requirementsfor Server Technology IPDUs
For supported Server Technology IPDUs the followin g additional requirements apply:
The console server must be managed by a DSVi ew 3 server (DSView 3 so ftware version
3.4.1 or above).
The needed po wer device license must be present , and the powe r device must be ad ded to
the DSView 3 software.
The license is automatic ally downloaded from the DSVie w 3 servero nto the console server.
Configuration and management can then be performed eit her through the DSView 3 software or
through the web manager.
Conventionsused to identify outlets
Several formats (such aso utlet names, outlet groups, IPDU IDs and port names) can be used to
identify out lets during configu ration, as described belo w:
An administrator can configure o ptional names for each outlet to replace the default names
assigned by the system. Outlet names must begi n with a letter. Valid characters are letters,
numbers, dash (-) and underscore (_). When an outlet name is con figured, the name can be
used in ot her power management con figurations.
An administrator can configure out let groups. Once defined, outlet groups are specified
with the dol lar sign ($) prefix followed by the outl et group name: $outlet_g roupname.For
example, $Cyclades_ IPDU specifies an outlets g roup called Cycla des_IPDU.
An administrator can specify ou tlets in any of the follo wing ways:
With a name that was configured for th e outlet
With an outl et group name preceded by the $ suffix
