The first step to configure your console server is to select a security profile. One of the
following sit uations is applicab le when you bo ot the console server.
The co nsole serveri sstarti ng forth efirst time or after a reset to factory default. In this
situation wh en you boot the consol e serveran d log in as an administrator to the w eb
manager, a security warni ng dialog b ox appears. The web man ager is redirected to Step 1:
Security Profile in the Wizard mode. Further navi gation to other section so fth e web
manager is not p ossible withou t selecting or co nfiguring a security profile. Once you select
or configure a security profile and ap ply the changes, the web manag errestarts for the
security configuration to take effect.
The console server firmware is upg raded and the system is restarting with t he new
firmware. Int his situation the console server was already in use and certain co nfiguration
parameters were saved in the Flash memory. In this case the consol e serveraut omatically
retrieves the Custom Security Profile parameters saved in the Flash memory and behaves as
it was a normal reboot .
The console server is restarting no rmally. In this situatio n, the console server detects the
pre-defined security profile. Y ou can contin ue working in the web manager.
Serial port settingsand security profiles
All serial ports on console server un its shipped from the factory are disab led by default. The
administrator can enab le ports individua lly or collectivel y and assign specific users to
individua lports.
If you reconfigure the security profile an d restartt he web manager, make sure the serial ports
protocols and access methods matc h the selected secu rity profile. A reminder di alog box wi ll
appear before you can proceed to Step 2 : Network Settin gs.
To selector configure a security profile:
The following proce dure assumesy ou have installed a new co nsole server or you have reset the
unit to factory default.
1. Enter the assigned IP address of the console server in yo ur browser and login as an
administrator.
2. Review the security a dvisory and click the Close button.
NOTE: Your browser’s pop-up blocker must be disabledto see the advisory.
3. The web manager i s automatically redi rected to Wizard - Step 1: Security Profile.
4. Select a pre-defined secu rity profile by pressing one of t he Secure, Moderate, Op en or
Default profiles o r create a custom profile.
