ADF document-feed system

Overview

The ADF document-feed system detects the presence of a source document in the document tray, picks up the document and transports it through the ADF paper path, and then delivers the source document to the ADF output.

The ADF motor rotates counterclockwise, which rotates the feed and delivery rollers. The document pickup solenoid is activated, causing the pickup and separation rollers to rotate. If more than one source document is in the ADF input tray, the separation roller and separation pad clear the multiple-sheet feed, and then the first document is sent into the flatbed scanning path.

The leading-edge sensor detects the source document in the paper path and then the scanning lamp illuminates.

The source document is passed through the flatbed scanning path and the image processing operation (controlled by the CCD driver) begins.

The delivery roller transfers the source document to the ADF output. If more source documents are in the input tray, the process repeats.
