The INSTMODE command selects the instrument's operating mode. For HP 71451B instruments all six of the following selections are available. On HP 71450B/2B instruments, only the OSA, SR, and PULSE selections are available:

￿OSA (Optical Spectrum Analyzer). This is the preset state and it uses a combination of monochromator and photodiode ￿atness correction data.

￿PWRMTR (Power Meter). The front-panel's PHOTODETECTOR INPUT connector is enabled. Only photodiode ￿atness correction data is used. Signals connected to this input are detected without passing through the optical spectrum analyzer's monochromator. The AMETER function is turned on. The trace shows data as it is taken.

￿OSAPULSE. This option places the optical spectrum analyzer in an operation mode that is optimized for making accurate fast pulse measurements. The range of the internal transimpedance ampli￿er is
