Erasing Memory

Use the DISPOSE command to erase items from internal memory. DISPOSE

ALL erases all contents of internal memory. Use the PURGE command to

erase items from either internal or external memory, depending on the

storage device selected.

The ERASE command erases all memory in the OSA for security purposes,

including internal memory, instrument settings, user-entered serial-number

information, trace data, user-entered correction factors, and o￿sets. ERASE

does not erase data in external memory, such as memory on a memory card

or a disk drive. The partial erase command, PERASE, erases all internal

memory and instrument settings. PERASE does not a￿ect the correction

factors or serial-number information.

Use the ERASE command for security purposes only. ERASE destroys all

C A U T I O N

contents of internal memory.

In the event of power loss, reserve memory is lost. For example, all active

trace information is lost. The current values of all prede￿ned variables and

instrument settings are lost unless they are stored in a state-register ￿le

before power is removed. Instrument settings and prede￿ned variables not

saved in state registers may be retrieved when power is returned if the

POWERON command is set to LAST before power is removed. Otherwise, the

instrument settings and prede￿ned variables return to their preset state when

power is returned.

The FORMAT command erases internal or external memory. If a memory card

or a disk drive (￿oppy) is selected with the MSI command, FORMAT initializes

it.
