Controlling Advanced Measurement Programs

The NNNNNNNNFP , NNNNNNNNNNNDFB , and NNNNNNNNNNNLED measurement keys available under the 4USER5 menu activate advanced measurement routines. You can also make these

measurements over HP-IB. Refer to Chapter 7, \Language Reference" for more information about the following advanced measurement program commands:

￿\FP " for characterizing a Fabry-Perot laser source.

￿\DFB " for characterizing a distributed feedback laser source.

￿\LED " for characterizing a light-emitting diode laser source.

To learn how to measure the characteristics of these laser sources, manually, refer to Chapter 3, \Measuring Signals" in the OSA users' guide.

Making advanced measurements over HP-IB

To make advanced measurements over HP-IB, connect HP-IB as needed. Connect the laser source to the OSA.

Follow the instructions below, or refer to the commands in Chapter 7, \Language Reference", of this manual:

1.To measure a Fabry-Perot source and obtain measurement data, enter the following command lines:

30 OUTPUT 723;"AUTOMEAS;"

Locate and display the output of the laser source .

40OUTPUT 723;"FP_;" Measure the output of the F abry-Perot source .

50OUTPUT 723;"FP_ ?;" Query the instrument and return the FP charac-

terization data.

2.To measure a distributed feedback laser source and obtain measurement data, enter the following command lines:

30

OUTPUT 723;"AUTOMEAS;"

Locate and display the output of the laser source .

40

OUTPUT

723;"DFB_;"

Measure the output of the laser source .

50

OUTPUT

723;"DFB_ ?;"

Return the measurement data.
