Configuration B

Figure 1-3illustrates a UPS serially attached to a server that is plugged into a load segment of the UPS. The server is connected directly to the network. A Management Server is located elsewhere on the network. The server has an installed System Agent that receives commands, such as displaying a pop-up message or shutting down the operating system, from the Management Server. The server also has an installed Serial Relay Agent that is used for communication between the UPS and the Management Server.

NOTE: Installed agents must be associated with the correct server or UPS load segment in HP Rack and Power Manager. For information on associating agents, refer to “Attached Agents Screen” in Chapter 5.
