kTeletypewriter (T TY) Devices
You can use an optional teletypew riter (TTY ) device with your phone to
send and receive calls. You must pl ug the TTY device into th e phone’s
headset connector and se t the phone to operate in one of three T TY
modes.
A TTY is a communica tion device used by people w ho are hard of
hearing or have a speech im pairment. TTY doe s not work from mobile
phone to mobile phone. Your phone ha s a 3.5mm jack. Use a TSB-121
compliant cable (pro vided by the TTY manu facturer) and a 3.5mm to
2.5mm Audio Adapter to connect the T TY device to your phone. S et the
phone to Medium volume level for p roper operation. If you experi ence
a high number of incorrec t characters, adjust the volu me as needed to
minimize the error rate. For optim al performance, your p hone should
be at least 12 inches (30 centi meters) from the TT Y device. Placing the
phone too close to the TTY d evice may cause high erro r rates.
kAvoid potential hea ring loss.
Prolonged exposure to loud s ounds (including mus ic) is the most
common cause of preventab le hearing loss. Some sci entific research
suggests that using por table audio devices, su ch as portable music
players and cellular tele phones, at high volume setti ngs for long
durations may lead to perma nent noise-induced he aring loss. This
includes the use of headph ones (including hea dsets, earbuds and
Bluetooth or other wireless d evices). Exposure to ve ry loud sound has
also been associated in s ome studies with tinnitu s (a ringing in the ear),
hypersensitivity to s ound and distorted heari ng. Individual suscept ibility
to noise-induced hear ing loss and other potential he aring problems
varies.
The amount of sound produc ed by a portable audio dev ice varies
depending on the nature of th e sound, the device, the device s ettings
and the headphones. You should fol low some common sense
recommendations whe n using any portable au dio device:
