Connecting to Networks
Connecting to Wi-Fi networksConnecting to a Wi-Fi netwo rk “hotspot” or wireless ac cess point
enables faster data transmission.
Some access points are op en and free to connect whil e others are
hidden or protected by passwords a nd other security meas ures
requiring additional configuration.
The following Status bar ico ns indicate Wi-Fi status.
Connected to a Wi-Fi networ k (Waves indicate
connection strength)
Notification that a Wi-Fi n etwork is in range
No Wi-Fi networks detec ted
NOTE
You can extend your battery life by tu rning off the Wi-Fi when not i n
use.
Turning Wi-Fi on and conn ecting to a Wi-Fi netwo rk
1. From the Hom e screen, tap the Menu key > Sett ings > Wi-Fi.
The Wi-Fi se ttings screen appear s.
2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch f rom the OFF position to the ON position.
Wi-Fi turns o n and your phone scans for availa ble Wi-Fi network.
3. A list of available Wi-Fi n etworks will be displayed. S ecured networks
are indicated by a lock icon .
If the phone f inds a network that you have conn ected to previously, it
automatically connec ts to that network.
4. Tap the network you want to join.
5. If the network is ope n, you will be prompted to confirm that yo u want
to connect to that network. Tap Connect to con firm.
If the networ k is secured, you will be prompted to e nter a password.
