Chapter 14

Using 3rd Party Common Tools

Arp -a

Note: This tool can be used in both Interactive Mode and Batch Mode. For details on scheduling this tool to run in batch mode see Using Batch Mode.

The Address Resolution Protocol (Arp) allows a host to find the media access control address of a host on the same physical network, given the IP address of the host. To make ARP efficient, each computer caches IPÂÂÂtoÂÂÂmedia access control address mappings to eliminate repetitive Arp broadcast requests.

You can use the arp -acommand to view the Arp table entries on a specified host. The arp command is useful for viewing the Arp cache and resolving address resolution problems.

Note: Because the Dashboard automatically sets the allowable commands for this tool, the Dashboard screen for this utility does not contain a command line input field.
