lUpgradeLicense—a license that adds AP capaci ty to your controller.Note t hat UpgradeLicenses do not support
an evaluation license.
Working with Licens es
Each license referst o specific functionality (or module) that supports unique features.
The licensesare:
lBase OS—baseoperating functions including VPN and VI A clients.
lAP Capacity —capacity license for RA P indoor and outdoor Mesh APs. Campus, Remote, or Mesh APs can
terminate on the controllerwithout the need for a separate license.
lAdvanced Cryptography(ACR)—this is required for the Suite B Cryptographyi nIP sec and80 2.11 modes.
License enforcementbehavior co ntrolst he total numbero f concurrentconnections (IPsec or 802.11) using Suite
B Cryptography.Bundled with this license are the xSec license features.
lPolicy Enforcement Firewall Virtual Private Network (PEFV)—enables Policy E nforcementFirewall for VIA
clients. This is a controller license.
lPolicy Enforcement Firewall Next Generation (PEFNG)—Wired, WLAN Licensed per AP numbers including
userroles, access rights, Layers 4 through7 traffic control, per-service prioritization/QoS,
authentication/accounting APIs, External Service Interfaces (ESI), Voice and Vi deo. This is an AP co unt license.
lPublic Access—reserved forfuture use.
lRFprotect—WirelessI ntrusion Protection (WIPS) and Spectrum Analysis. This is an AP co unt license.
lxSec(E xtremeSecurity) for Federal—Layer 2 VPN for wired or wireless using FIPS-approved algorithms.
lInternalTest Functions—for internaluse only.
The licensecat egories are:
lPermanent license—This type of license permanently enables the desired software moduleon a specific Dell
controller. You obtain permanent licenses through the sales order process only. Permanent software license keys
are sent to you via email.
lEvaluation license—This type of license allows you to evaluate the unrestricted functionality of a software
moduleon a specific controller for 90 days (in three 30-day increments).
An expiredevaluation license will remain in the license database until the controlleris reset using the command
write erase all where all licensekeys are removed. An expired evaluation license has no impact on the normal
operation of the controller. It i s kept in the licensedatabase t o preventabuse.
NOTE:When l icense keysare appli ed on a controller, abnormal tampering of the device’s system clock (settingthe system clock
back)results in the disabling of software licensed modules and their supported features. This can affectnetwork services.
To determine your time remaining on an evaluation license, a banner is displayed when you log in through the
commandline:
