applicable,is similar to that of a thin AP. R emember, the priority of t he meshpoi nt is establishing a link with
neighboringmesh nodes, not establishing a control link to the controller.
NOTE:In a single hop environm ent, them eshpoi ntestablishes a direct link wi ththe mesh portal.

Air Monitoring and Mesh

Each mesh node hasan air monito r(A M)process t hat registersthe BSSID and the MAC address of the mesh node
to distinguish it from a thin AP. This allows the WLAN management system (WMS) on thec ontrollerand AMs
deployedi n your network to distinguish between APs, wireless clients, and mesh nodes. The WMS tables also
identify the mesh nodes.
For allt hinA Ps and mesh nodes, the AM identifies a mesh node from other packets monitored on the air, and the
AM does not trigger “wireless-bridging” events for packets transmitted between mesh nodes.
Verifying the Network
To view a list of your Mesh APs via the WebUI, navigate to the one of the following windows:
lMonitoring >N etwork > All Mes h Nodes
lMonitoring >C ontrolle r> Mesh Nod es
To view mesh APs and the mesh topology tree using the commandline interface, access the command-line interface
in enablemode and i ssue the followingco mmands:
lshow ap mesh active
lshow ap mesh topology

Verification Checkli st

After provisioning the mesh APs, follow the steps below to ensuret hat themesh network is up and operating
correctly.
lIssue the command show ap mesh topologytoverify all the mesh APs are up andt het opology is as expected.
(Wait 10 minutes after startup for the topology to stabilize.)
lVerify each mesh node has the expected RSSI to its neighboring mesh nodes. The mesh topology is updated
periodically,so access the command-line interfaceand issue the command show ap mesh neighbors forthe
currentstatus. If the RSSI i s low,verify t hat thet x-powersetti ngsi nt hemesh node’s 802.11 a/802.11g radio
profilesare co rrect,or, if ARM is used, verify the correct minimum tx-power setting.
lIssue the command show ap mesh debug provisioned-clusterstoverify that the mesh clusters are correctly
definedand provisio ned(wi th encryption if desired). Issue theshow running-config | include recovery
commandt o verify that the cluster’srecovery profile matches the controller's.
lVerify antenna provisioning by issuing the show ap provisioning commandand verify installation parameters
for non-defaultinstallations (e.g. standard indoor APs deployed outside, or W-AP8 5 and W-AP175 Series
outdoor APs deployed inside.). Ensureall APs use the same channel list by issuing the show ap allowed-
channelscommand.
l
Ift hemesh-radio is to bereservedexclusively for meshbackhaul tr affic,
issue the show ap profile-usage
commandt o identify the radio’s 802.11a or 802.11 g radio profile,then issue the command show rf dot11a-
radio-profile <profile>or show rf dot11g-radio-profile <profile> to verify the radio is disabled in
the profile.Next, use the show ap bss-table commandt o that verify no access Virtual AP s are up on the mesh
radio.
