Configuring the Co ntroller IP Address
The ControllerIP address is used by the controller to communicate with external devices such as APs.
You can set the ControllerIP address to the loopback interface addressor to an existi ngV LAN ID address. This
allows you to forcet hecontroller IP address to be a specific VLAN interface or loopback address across multiple
machine reboots. Onceyou configure an interface to be the controller IP address, that interface addresscannot be
deleteduntil yo u remove it from the controller IP configuration.
If the controllerIP address is not configured thent hecontroller IP defaults to the current loopback interface address.
If the loopback interface addressis not configured thent hefirst configuredV LAN interface addressi s selected.
Generally,VLAN 1 is the factory default setting and thusbecomes t heco ntrollerIP address.
Using the WebUI:
1. N avigate to the Configuration > Network > Controller > System Settings page.
2. Lo cate the Controller IP Details section.
3. Select the address you want to set t heCo ntrollerIP to from the VLANID drop-down menu. This list only
contains VLAN IDs that have statically assignedI P addresses.If a loopback interface IP addresshas been
previously configuredthen it will also appear in this list. Dynamically assigned IP addresses,for example
DHCP/PPPOE do not display.
4. Click A pply.
NOTE:Any change in the controller’s IP address requires a reboot.
5. N avigate to the Maintenance > Controller > Reboot Cont roller page to reboot the controllerto apply the
changeof c ontrollerIP address.
6. Click Con tinue to save the configuration.
7. When prompted that the changes were written successfully to flash, click OK.
8. T hec ontrollerboots up with the changed controllerI P address. of the selected VLAN ID.

Using the CLI

(host) (config) #controller-ip [loopback|vlan <VLAN ID>]
Configuring GRE Tunn els
A controller supports genericrouting encapsulation (GRE) tunnelsbetween the c ontrollerand APs. A n AP opens a
GRE tunnelt o the controllerfor each radio interface. On the AP, the other end of the GRE tunnelis specified by
the IP address configured variablevalues (in descending order of priority)

<master>

,

<servername>,

and

<serverip>

.
If these variableare left to default values,the AP uses DNS to look up Alcatel-Lucent-mastert o discovert heIP
addresso f the controller.
