Configuring a VLAN to Conne ct to the Network
You must followt hei nstructions in this section only if you need to configure a trunkport between the controller
and anotherlayer-2 swit ch (shown in "Deployment Scenario #3: APs on Multiple Different Subnets from
Controllers"on page 68).
This section shows how to use both the WebUI and CLI for the following configurations (subsequentsteps show
how to use the WebUI only):
lCreate a VLAN on the controller and assign it an IP address.
lOptionally, create a VLAN pool. A VLA N poolco nsists of two more VLAN IDs which are groupedt ogetherto
efficiently managemulti-controller networks from a single location. For example, polici es and virtualapplicati on
configurations mapusers to different VLANs which may exist at differentD ellcontrollers. This creates
redundancywhere one controller has to back up many other Dell controllers. With the VLAN poo l featureyo u
can control your configuration globally.
NOTE:VLAN pooli ng should
not
beused wi thstatic IP addresses.
lAssign to the VLAN the ports that you will use to connect the controller to the network. (For example, the
uplinkports co nnectedt o a router are usuallyGigabit ports.) In the example configurations shown in this section,
a controlleris connected to the network through its Gigabit E thernetport 1/25.
