Replacing a Con troller on a Multi-Controller Network
The procedureto replacea co ntrollerwithin a multi-controllernetwork varies, depending upon the role of that
controller,whether the network has a single master controller or a cluster of master Dell controllers, and whetheror
not the controller has a backup.
NOTE:The foll owing sections describe thesteps to replace an existing controller. To add a new local controllerto a network, or
permanentlyrem ovea l ocal controller without replacing it, see "Viewing and Managing the Master or Local Switch Whitelists"on
page88.

Replacin g Controllers in a Single Master N etwork

Use the proceduresin this sect ion to replacea master or local controller in a network environmentwi th a single
master controller.

Replacing a Local Controller

Use the followingprocedure to replace a local controllerin a si ngle-masternetwork.
1. D isconnect the localco ntrollerfrom the network.
2. If yo uplan on moving the local controller to another location on the network, purgethe campus AP whitelist on
the controller.
Access the command-linei nterfaceon the old local controller and issue the commandwhitelist-db cpsec
purge
or,
Access the local controller WebUI, navigate to Configuration>AP Inst allation>CampusAP Whitelist and click
Purge.
3. Once the campus AP whitelist has been purged, you must inform the master controllerthat the local controlleris
no longeravailable. .
NOTE:Thi s stepi s veryi mportant; unused local controller entries in the local switch whitelist can significantly increase network
trafficand reduce controller mem oryresources.
